AENEAS Technical Director Patrick COGEZ was invited to present the European microelectronics funding landscape and the role of industrial associations in its governance at the 26th International Conference on Industrial Technology Innovation, held in Taipei on 16–17 October 2025.
This international forum gathered leading experts and managers from the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) – the event organiser – the Industrial Technology Research Institute, TECHMAN ROBOT, the Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley Program, the Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robotics Association (TAIROA), and the Taiwan Chip-Based Industry Innovation Office, as well as representatives from ADRA (AI, Data and Robotics Association) and AVL. The discussions centred on future R&D policies and global collaboration in the field of Electronic Components and Systems (ECS).
On the sidelines of the conference, Patrick Cogez held a series of bilateral meetings with Taiwanese research institutions, including the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). The meeting with TSRI was initiated following contacts established during the ICOS – International Cooperation on Semiconductors workshop in Warsaw earlier this year.
During these exchanges, AENEAS Technical Director presented the ICOS project and its recently published Report D3.3 – Recommendations for International Research Cooperation, which outlines research topics identified by ICOS experts as the most promising for collaboration between Europe and other global regions. He invited Taiwanese experts to review this list and share their priorities to help shape future joint initiatives.
Among the strategic directions highlighted by Taiwanese experts during these meetings were:
-
Chiplet-based stacking technology and heterogeneous integration
-
Advanced packaging
-
New materials to reduce dependence on rare earth elements
-
Enabling technologies for Artificial Intelligence at the edge
These exchanges not only provided valuable input for defining future EU–Taiwan R&I cooperation topics, but also offered deeper insight into Taiwan’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) system and new initiatives such as the Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley Program—information that will contribute to the final deliverables of the ICOS project.
As a partner in EU projects such as ICOS and the European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA), AENEAS remains committed to strengthening international partnerships and developing skills to reinforce the European semiconductor value chain.
