The European Commission has opened a public consultation on the general revision of the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER), an initiative that could have far-reaching implications for R&I actors across Europe — including those in the Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) community.
The GBER enables Member States to implement certain categories of State aid without prior notification to the Commission, provided they meet pre-defined conditions. Its revision is intended to ensure that the regulation remains aligned with the EU’s strategic priorities, including the green and digital transitions, increased resilience, and technological sovereignty.
This update follows the broader evolution of EU policies, including the implementation of the European Green Deal, the Digital Decade, and the Chips Act. The revision may affect the conditions and scope under which public authorities can support innovation, infrastructure, environmental protection, and training initiatives — all highly relevant to ECS stakeholders.

The consultation is open until 8 October 2025.
