On 11 April 2025, Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) held an information workshop to present the provisions of its upcoming call for proposals for Design Enablement Teams (DETs). The session was aimed at informing potential applicants and stakeholders about the structure, objectives, and practical aspects of the call.
As part of the Chips for Europe Initiative, the Design Platform plays a central role in strengthening Europe’s semiconductor design capabilities. It seeks to foster a robust design ecosystem in the Union, particularly supporting the growth of innovative fabless companies, including start-ups and SMEs.
The Design Platform is structured around two core entities:
-
The Platform Coordination Team (PCT), which oversees the coordination of the platform, manages framework agreements with EDA/IP suppliers, and provides access to a centralised cloud service offering a marketplace of IPs, tools, PDKs, and training resources.
-
The Design Enablement Teams (DETs), which operate distributed cloud instances and offer technical support to users, from design setup to chip tape-out.
The workshop agenda included:
-
An introduction to the upcoming DET call by Chips JU
-
A presentation of the Design Platform and the PCT by Romano Hoofman (imec)
-
A focus on the DETs by David Servat (CEA)
-
An overview of the call specifics, including budget, timeline, eligibility criteria, and evaluation process
-
A Q&A session with the audience
The recording of the workshop and all presentations are now available on the Chips JU website: Chips JU – Workshop Materials
Stakeholders interested in participating in the call are encouraged to consult the materials and stay informed about the official launch of the call.
