EDS France, IRDS and SiNANO Institute are organizing an open Webinar “Outside System Connectivity” given by Mike Garner, Chair of the IEEE Outside System Connectivity Team of the IRDS. The webinar will be focused on the “Outside System Connectivity” IRDS Roadmap and will take place on October 6, 2022, 5PM (CEST).

A Summary of the IRDS “International Roadmap for Devices and Systems” dedicated chapter will be presented during the event. In the end of the webinar there will be a possibility to raise questions during the dedicated session led by Francis Balestra, Director of the SINANO Institute.

About the Outside System Connectivity Roadmap 

The purpose of this roadmap is to identify communication requirements for systems in different applications, identify gaps in capabilities, critical component and device development needs for the next 15 years and monitor developments of capabilities to fill these future gaps.

The Internet of Everything (IoE) is continuing to expand in applications that demand higher volumes of higher performance communication. The IoE includes a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) devices communicating with cloud or edge computing. Most applications will employ RF/microwave wireless communication to connect to the internet which will then connect through high-performance backhaul or fiber optical interconnects to a cloud data center.

Applications that required fast communication and decision making, such as autonomous vehicles and traffic control, are developing high speed networks in vehicle and adopting edge computing. Higher speed networks are needed to communicate with low latency to edge processors and within edge and cloud data/processing centers. Higher data rate RF and photonic components are needed that operate with ever increasing energy efficiency. Applications and future needs will be discussed in this presentation.
