18 Jan 2019

Paris, 18 January 2019 – AENEAS, the Industry Association for nano- and microelectronics- based components, systems and applications, today announces the appointment of Jean-Marc Chery as its new President. Jean-Marc Chery, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics, takes over from Reinhard Ploss, CEO of Infineon and President of AENEAS for the last three years.

Former AENEAS President, Reinhard Ploss highlights the Association’s key role – in collaboration with its partners, industry associations ARTEMIS-IA and EPoSS – in contributing to a comprehensive, unified vision of Europe’s strategic interests in the domain of Electronic Components and Systems (ECS). Together, the members of the three industry associations develop technologies and systems for the future of this vital industry. He underlines that collaborative RD&I in ECS plays a pivotal role in Europe’s industrial competitiveness and emphasises the societal and economic impact of ECS applications. Looking ahead, Dr Ploss adds: “Through microelectronics, we can provide answers to most imminent questions of our time. I am confident that Jean-Marc Chery will be a powerful voice for the ECS industry across Europe, reinforcing our leadership and our ability to address the societal challenges of the 21st century”.

Commenting on his appointment as new President of AENEAS, Jean-Marc Chery declares: “I am pleased to take the presidency of AENEAS, at a time when the ECS industry is recognized as a key stakeholder in the shift towards a more digital future for our societies. It is vital to align strategies, resources and investments at European and national level, together with the European Institutions, Member States, industrial and research partners. This is key to reinforce European ecosystems, ensure Europe’s competitiveness across the ECS value chain, and increase our leadership in key technologies and applications addressing the challenges of the future”.

Mr Chery has been STMicroelectronics’ President and Chief Executive Officer since May 2018.
